A moving story of two people who are given a second chance.

 

Annie is desperately lonely as she faces the slow decline of her husband a victim of Alzheimer's disease. When she meets James online she is only searching for friendship and a break from the devastating loneliness that grips her life. However as she and James get to know each other they begin to explore a mutual interest in BDSM.

When they meet in person the attraction they felt online grows into full fledged love and the attraction they felt online grows deeper. Their online exploration of the master and slave lifestyle spills into reality.

Annie loves James but remains loyal to her husband who no longer remembers who she is. Conflicted about his relationship with the married Annie, James makes a clean break and leaves Annie devastated.

Though time passes Annie never stops loving James.
After their relationship is torn apart, their love nearly destroyed, fate steps in and allows them another chance but by then Annie is torn between wanting this gift fate has given her and her fear of being hurt again.

Bound by Fate is an erotic treat, well written with memorable characters, a good plot, and a lot of very adult content. It explores a mature and very loving relationship in the life of an older couple discovering the liberation the world of master and slave can deliver. Annie and James truly find themselves bound by a fate neither would have imagined, and yet the gulf between them needs to be breached before they can decide whether they are prepared, and can actually be permanently Bound by Fate.

I was a little uncertain about this story, expecting it perhaps to be simply a shallow accounting of an online relationship. However, I was quite pleasantly surprised; the author does an excellent job of delving into the ramifications of the BDSM lifestyle, and explores that very well both in the cyber-scene segments, and in several "real time" opportunities between the two protagonists. They are well-realised personalities. With the caution that some readers might find the BDSM nature of the novel offensive, I recommend this one.
